Björn Barends

Björn Barends was born in 1982 and studied at ArtEZ in Zwolle, in the Netherlands. He's been drawn to strange, monstrous subjects for as long as he can remember.

He went full-time as a commercial illustrator around age 30. He started out with India ink, watercolor and airbrush, and now works mostly digitally, mixing 2D painting with 3D, on art for novels, games, toys and comics.

His clients include McFarlane, Top Cow, Image Comics, CMON and Modiphius. On the comics side he's known for covers featuring Spawn, Batman and a long list of Marvel heroes, and he's a regular guest at US conventions.
