John Tyler Christopher

John Tyler Christopher grew up in a small Indiana town. In eighth grade he and a friend pored over Joe Jusko's painted Marvel Masterpieces cards, which pushed him toward painterly comic art.

His first paid job was a Psylocke drawing commissioned by his science teacher. Years later Marvel launched his trading card variants, and the first card in that line was also Psylocke.

He's best known for creating Marvel's action figure variant covers, which became a long-running line. In October 2017 he followed them with trading card variants across 14 Marvel Legacy titles.
